Detroit Public Schools Joy Middle School 4611 Fairview Detroit, MI. 48213 12/03/05 To All Radio Program Directors: As Principal of Joy Middle School within the Detroit Public School system one with over 900 students grades 6 thru 8. I’m writing this letter on the behalf of staff, students, and myself. At least 50 of my staff members supported Elder Howard that we affectionately relate to as Brother Bill when we heard his single release entitled “What A Blessing It Would Be”. The children went down the halls saying, “Listen to your parents”. One of our student’s sang “His Name” in the school talent show. The staff and myself see him as a modern day Sam Cooke-Bobby Womack with a touch of his own. For years he has been instrumental in motivating young people to stay in school and out of jail. His name is a household name on Detroit’s east side especially. Children, parents and educators we all love and respect him dearly. In listening to his new project entitled “Elder Howard & Family-Promoting God, Family and Community”, we feel that it is one of the most positive, well-produced pieces of work that we have ever heard. It is the only CD I ever heard where I like the entire production; however “Change Gonna Come”, “Jesus Is The Best Thing”, “What A Blessing It Would Be”, “Jody Slick” are my pick hits. I told him that “Jody Slick” was going to put him on the national scene. A lot of mothers who have been left struggling alone to raise a family will love to dedicate this song to their baby’s daddy. For Parents to play at home, “I Want” is great for them to get a point across. During a time when our young people desperately need true male role models, we contend that America couldn’t find a better artist and human being to promote than Brother Bill. He has spent his entire life helping others who have moved all over the nation and world doing great things. We now ask you and other radio stations across the Nation to help promote this very positive project. Detroit especially owes him for what he has done in this city to give hope to those who had no hope. Another thing that I like about the project is that there are a number of selections that parents can use to initiate dialogue between them and their children, selections that are very inspirational, selections that promote positive parenting and male responsibility, a great well balanced production. Thanking you for all of us Ms. Josylin Smith Principal-Joy Middle School This is the draft copy that she emailed to me after mailing it out.
